Helping Threads – Vestiaire Collective, 2023

Founded in 2009 to create circularity in the fashion industry, the Vestiaire Collective is an online group that sells pre-loved vintage and luxury fashion. As a nonprofit with B Corp certification, they are concerned with fast-fashion and its effect on environment and community.

Vestiaire’s 2023 impact report styles itself softly, in direct opposition to the brash, loud world of fashion. This softness is apparent partly in the lovely serif typeface selected by the in-house design team and the studio Goodkids.

It is also apparent in the muted colour palette applied to type and design elements. It is most notable in graphs and charts appearing in the report. These occupy large spaces but thanks to the colour palette, never feel like they are shouting for attention. A set of delicate icons help create a lightness, too.

Softness is also seen in the curve-cornered photographs scattered throughout the report. While the images themselves are vibrant and rich, some of the loudness is tempered by the corners.

The speed at which sections of the report slide and move is likewise relaxed, as is the movement of the cursor. Nothing here happens at the frenetic pace associated with the fashion industry. Everything is intentional and smoothly paced, nicely reinforcing the work of Vestiaire Collective.
