CellMark’s 2022 annual report has unpredictability as its theme. It conveys this through the use of art by Swedish generative artist, Jimmy Herdberg. Herdberg works with code to create his pieces. By writing and then iterating code, he and his computer produce work of abstract complexity.
In CellMark’s report, Herdberg’s work is reminiscent of organic processes—the movement of rivers, the growth of fungal networks or plant roots, the way stalactites grow, and the organisation of cells within an organ. With a lively colour palette and a distinct sense of movement, there is plenty to admire. More often than not, the art stands on its own. In one or two cases it is incorporated into charts and graphs.
The art is supported by an elegant, modern serif typeface and a colour palette that ranges from vivid to muted, balancing Herdberg’s work. The decision to feature so many of Herdberg’s pieces is a good one, as it makes the report all the more memorable.
