Designed by VincDesign, the Society’s bilingual 2018/19 annual report uses traditional East Asian pottery as a design motif and the silhouettes of vessels of various forms appear in the report.

The pottery motif is used for a number of purposes. The varied shapes are used as page ornaments, as dividers between sections, and as ‘containers’ for photographs. There is a pleasing fluidity to the layout of the pages as a result of this.

Most importantly, the shapes of the vessels are incorporated into infographics, icons, and charts. It is here the report shines. The sinewy curves of pottery vessels enliven the data, and make for some beautiful spreads.

The report creates a hopeful tone by using a cheerful pastel colour palette, relying on darker tones sparingly. Bilingual reports are often densely packed and this report is no exception, but the choice of design motif and colour palette help to reduce the weight of the text.
