In the pipeline

Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is an Indonesian company specialising in the transport and distribution of natural gas. They have 84 million customers so perhaps its no surprise that their 2015 report is huge, coming in at 700-pages.

The report consists of two books – the smaller sustainability report and the much larger annual report.

Both feature the same cover image (but in two different colours) – a die cut with a laminated, embossed graphic underneath. The detail on the emboss is worth noting – very fine lines are reproduced beautifully on the trishaws and clouds. The same high skill is seen in the die-cut.

The paper stock in the reports is a thin, uncoated cream stock – almost like newsprint and regrettably this has a negative impact on image reproduction, robbing many photographs of their vibrancy.

The type treatment makes use of a singe, modern serif for body text and multiple sans serifs to accommodate some quite small type sizes in the financial information section.

The serif in particular is very easy on the eye.

Infographics and icons are used widely in the early parts of both books and clearly explain the company’s business.
